A Sci-Fi Adventure: Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Even the title itself already sounds futuristic and science fiction, right? Well, that’s true. This French 3D sci-fi, action-adventure movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets was directed and written by Luc Besson. His wife also stepped in the making of this movie (how sweet!) by being a co-producer of the film.

The Development

The way the movie came about is pretty interesting—Luc Besson was actually in the middle of creating another story which was entitled “The Fifth Element” when he was suggested to do a movie based on the sci-fi comic “Valerian and Laureline”. The person who gave the idea was the illustrator of the comic.

Movie Synopsis

Here you will be taken on a journey to the future—the 28th century. Here, the word “alien” is not only a theory to us like how it is now. In Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, aliens are residing amongst humans. There, the knowledge and cultures of each are shared and they all live with peace in spite of differences. There are also those who maintain the peace and order, and they are the main characters of the story—Valerian and Laureline. Everything was going alright until one day, a dark force disrupts their world and it is up to them to stop the menace and instill peace in the city as it once has had.

Casting

We all know the gorgeous Cara Delevigne, who took many roles in movies with her remarkable performance (remember Paper Towns?). Now, she is taking on Laureline—a sergeant who travels through space and time. We also have Dane DeHaan who is the Major Valerian and the love interest of Laureline. Clive Owen, Rhianna, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock, John Goodman, and many more actors and actresses took part of this film.
